Tomb of the Tenth Lord

From The Tales of Ka-Ess

The Tomb of the Tenth Lord was a tomb complex built in the mountain caverns of Hag Island.

The Fishwives Visit

The Fishwives set out for the tomb the day after the great beach battle with the island's gnoll population.

The Twin Monuments

Outside the caverns stood two large monuments. Surrounding one of these, the crew found twelve dwarves dressed in armor for battle. After approaching the dwarf with the highest-quality armor, Ardrick discovered that all twelve suits of armor were filled with bleached bones. Ka-Ess Spoke With the Dead to learn about the entity sealed within the complex. Ardrick recovered a set of mithril armor and [...].

The Entrance Chamber

A rubbing of the cavern wall with profane words and symbols.

Entering the caverns, our heroes traversed a series of narrow tunnels before finding themselves in a cavernous room. On the opposite wall was a large cleft; arcane symbols covered the walls around the cleft, and two piles of skulls and severed heads flanked it. In this room, they met Gash, a pale humanoid who was covered in scars, tattoos, and grime. Gash spoke Undercommon, which Cheeky was able to translate. He said, "Powerful masters, you honor us with your presence. Seek you passage through the tomb to the Duzack Gate? Trust Gash and guide you through the maze he will!"

Cheeky spoke to Gash and Gash offered to serve her as he served an entity he called "The Great One." He said The Great One emerged from The Maw.

The Sealed Door

They discovered a metal door with a relief of a hammer, lightning bolt, and a shattered stone. They could not open the door.

The Hideous Amphitheatre

Drawn deeper into the caverns by the sound of a halfling woman being tortured, The Fishwives crept forward and discovered the sounds emanated from a leucrotta which appeared to be performing for three bulezau and three gnolls. These were dispatched quickly.

The Pristine Shrine

The next chamber was notably cleaner than the previous rooms. The walls no longer showed profane graffiti and the smell of rotting flesh was gone. A gold disc was embedded in the wall above a granite basin; a single fresh flower lay nearby. There were also five bronze doors in the southern end of the chamber. These were covered in ancient dwarven runes which were indecipherable.
