Battle of Esson

The Battle of Esson was a naval engagement between ships of the Empire of Doloriane and the August Hierarchy. The battle, believed by some historians to be the largest naval battle in the history of the Skaugan Main, devastated both the Elven and Minotauran navies. Despite their massive losses the battle was considered a victory for the Hierarchy, as it dashed initial Elven expectations of a swift and decisive resolution to the Dolorianian—Hierarchal conflict. The disaster at Esson forced Imperial diplomats to negotiate a truce with Hierarchal emissaries in neutral Port Skaug during the so-called Conference of Bronze. The resulting Treaty of Port Skaug gave the Hierarchy uncontested dominance of the Skaugan Main's eastern seas, and is often cited as a precursor to the Hierarchy's invasion of Orlan in 218 Valanthe II.
