Dolorianian Regnal Calendar
The Dolorainian Regnal Calendar, less formally known as the Elvish reckoning, is a method of timekeeping common in areas under the control of or in significant contact with the Empire of Doloraine. Due to the stable political structure of the Dolorainian Empire and the length of the Elvish lifespan, the Doloranian Regnal calendar is often used as a common reference calendar for international trade and diplomacy and is even used as an official calendar in some multiracial countries and free cities.
Each lunar year is assigned the number of ruling years and the name of the current reigning Emperor or Empress of Doloraine; e.g., if the Empress Belanthe II had occupied the throne for twenty lunar years, the year in Elvish reckoning would be "the Twentieth Year of the Reign of Her Majesty Empress Belanthe II", typically abbreviated "20 Belanthe II" or "20 B.II". Within the Dolorainian Regnal Calendar, months and days are assigned their names and numbers according to the Elvish lunar calendar, although in some situations a separate system of months and days may be substituted.
Should an Emperor or Empress die or otherwise be removed from the throne, the remainder of the year retains his or her name until a new ruler is formally crowned during the Elvish lunar new year. In instances of political instability during which a new ruler is unable to be named, the year is assigned an interregnal year (e.g., "the First Year of the Second Interregnum"; "1 Second Interregnum"; or "1 IR II".
